Valerie Nelkin

Ms. Nelkin is a senior manager with 30 years of relevant experience evaluating Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) programs. Ms. Nelkin is an expert on culturally relevant health services delivery and evaluation methods. She has staffed several major task forces for HHS, including two groups started or chaired by Surgeon Generals (the Surgeon General’s Task Force on Pediatric AIDS and the National Council on Self-Help and Public Health).

During the past 10 years, Ms. Nelkin has devoted her expertise to evaluating preventive health programs. She has written numerous issue papers to inform expert panels and summary papers describing the outcomes of conferences and panel meetings. She recently served as Principal Investigator on a task order contract issued by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, entitled “Health Risk Appraisals in Primary Care: Current Knowledge and Potential Applications to Improve Preventive Services and Chronic Care.” Ms. Nelkin holds an M.A. in Human Services and Social Planning from Antioch University and a B.S. in Spanish and English Education from the University of Missouri.
