Frederick J. Eggers, Ph.D.

Dr. Frederick Eggers was a senior economist at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for more than 25 years. From 1985 through 1992, Dr. Eggers served as HUD's Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Affairs, and from 1992 through 2000, he served as HUD's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Affairs. In these senior positions, Dr. Eggers supervised a staff of 80 economists in 30 offices nationwide, and managed over $20 million in contract research annually. Dr. Eggers was responsible for informing senior Departmental managers on national and regional economic issues and provided economic input on major policy issues. He also represented the Department on high-level interagency task forces dealing with economic and statistical policy. During his tenure, Dr. Eggers was responsible for development of the President's National Urban Policy Report. In addition, Dr. Eggers carried out studies of the low-income housing tax credit program, the impact of tax provisions on housing, and conducted an assessment of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA). At HUD, Dr. Eggers also created and edited U.S. Housing Market Conditions, a quarterly report on housing activity at the national, regional, and local levels. Currently, at Econometrica, Dr. Eggers is serving as a Deputy Project Director for a general and technical assistance contract to support HUD's Office of Public and Indian Housing. He holds a B.A. degree in Mathematics from Rice University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
