Technical Support for Cost Estimation and Analysis

Econometrica supported the U.S. Department of
Education’s Cost
Estimation and Analysis Division (CEAD) in model development activities
to enhance CEAD’s program budget cost estimation capabilities,
with a particular focus on microsimulation. Our support also included
research into new data sources, assumptions, and other modeling techniques
applicable to CEAD’s cost estimation activities. The initial focus
involved development of a conceptual design document and data structure
for a microsimulation-based student loan cost estimation model. We also
provided analyses and technical assistance related to new or existing
data sources, assumptions, and modeling techniques used in the development
of program budget cost estimates.
