hurricanes and individual preparedness DHS needs to have a better understanding of the economic impact associated with natural disasters that occur here in the United States. The focus of this study is on estimating the differences in economic impacts experienced by those who were prepared and those who were unprepared for the storms; the amount of insurance purchased before and after the storms; the change in the number of insurance companies providing property casualty insurance in Florida; and to the extent possible, the level of individuals’ preparedness for hurricanes and the extent of individual losses based on the level of preparedness.
