Benchmark comparison of care for spinal cord injury and disease

For the Department of Veterans Affairs, under subcontract to Booz Allen Hamilton, Econometrica participated in a benchmark comparison of VHA Spinal Cord Injury and Spinal Cord Disease (SCI/SCD) health care and rehabilitation services with those provided under other health care systems.

Econometrica is providing analytical services in four areas: (1) to conduct data collection at 16 health care facilities and provide a descriptive cataloguing of clinical services, equipment, and benefits available in four different delivery modes of SCI/SCD health care and rehabilitation; (2) to identify structures and resources necessary for providing health care services and achieving quality outcomes, and to note variations in structural and resource elements across modes of care; (3) to propose a predictive model of risk adjustment that would control for variations in populations served by different modes of care; and (4) to contrast several definitive or anticipated outcome elements for the SCI/SCD patient population that are likely to exist in databases such as Medicare, Medicaid, HCUP, AMA, AHA, CDC, CMS, DOD, and others, and could be developed for purposes of comparison and benchmarking of patient outcomes.
